"Hi Alan,

I love to see your site growing. A very interesting design, that - like
all you do - makes it easy to follow, to learn, to have fun.

The reason I want you to publish my feedback is obviously not the new
site, neither the White Paper on behalf of H-Series. It's my tribute to
your work, and to your substantial participation in my success as
photographer.

The first times I read your comments and posts on a certain forum, I
would understand that there are photographers who dare to use compact
cameras. That was on a point in my career and life, as you sure will
remember, when I was dead ill. I had to rest, change and find a new way
of understanding light and photography. Life and Photography. If I
wouldn't have found you talking, teaching, helping, encouraging and
making fun out of getting a picture with those non-understood tools...

We will never know what would have happened. Then R1 arrived, and I took
that way. You went for the D200. I got lost in work, and then, after a
year when I returned, you were just about to leave. Therefore, you do
not know that I'm achieving a lot of wonderful work and projects. You
don't know that your example would make me confident in working with
compact machines, and that I would not hear all the laughing around me,
but only fix my memory in the shot you used on your first webpages. Mr.
Katz, looking through the F717.

Today nobody laughs when I arrive, or let's say that by now, nobody
thinks that my compact machine is inferior to theirs. What counts are
the results. You are in each and every single shot I have taken, you
were able to transfer part of your knowledge sucessfully. You are in
this results and I really don't get surprised when they turn out to be
winners. I had and have great maestros, and you are definitely one of
the this list.

You are welcome to my home whenever you want to come to southern Spain.
If you can wait a little, you can freely dispose over my studio,
actually under construction. If you need some help on whatever topic
related to your actual or future steps, just let me now.

And in the meantime, THANK YOU.
Best wishes" - Miguel Furlock

"I was searching online for days trying to find a website to tell me about using the converter lenses... I came across your website with the white paper and i thought it was awesome. I skimmed brieftly through as i am at work and it was everything i had been looking for. I think it is awesome that you put together something like this especially for a beginner like me. I am not a professional photographer i just do it for fun but book the camera comes with isnt enough. I couldnt beleive when i came across your website!! I just want to thank you and let you know that all of those chapters are awesome!! I only wish you would put it out in print at a bookstore!!" - Elsa Jaramillo

"At the risk of repeating myself, your writing, breakdown of subject and clarity of presentation are as good, if not better than just about anything I've ever read on Photography. And your passion for the subject always shows through.

I'm hoping to spread your knowledge to a few people that I'm inspiring by my new(ish) passion for photography the same way that I was inspired and helped by you when I first found the STF.

I do hope that you... [get] the time to turn the White Paper into a book. In an overcrowded area of publishing I think that it would have a distinct voice and make photographic concepts, techniques, etc. more attainable for many people who struggle with these things at the onset." -

"I just wanted to say Thank You for the excellent, and detailed, work regarding the Sony DSC H-5... I am thrilled to have run across your White Paper
on dpreview.com. I want to become a better photographer (I am soooooo just beginning.....) and your paper has great explanations of what terms mean, and how to best interpret camera settings, etc. I know I will be spending a LOT of time with this document and I just wanted to say Thanks for putting all your time and effort
into writing it." -

"... I am a retired photographer (47yrs) and you would think it would be simple to switch to digital......... well.believe me this is a whole different world!. At this point I would like to mention the white paper by AAK..... In my 47 years as a photographer I have attended many seminars at Eastman Kodak's headquarters in Rochester, NY and they are very good....but I must confess that the "White Paper" by AAK is the most informative that I have seen for many years. So, Mr AAK, I tip my 47 year photographers cap to you, well done sir!!! I will now retire my hassleblad,4 lens,2 nikon bodies,8 lens and let them rest, they served me well."

"Not aware of another site but if one exists I doubt that it would come even close to the detail, ease of reading and quality of Alan's White Paper. If there is something out there I bet you would have to pay big bucks for it. Besides, what more could you need after reading the White Paper? -:)" - Santiago Del Bono

"{The White Paper}... All I can say is wow. It's great someone puts so much effort to put up stuff like that. I bet that helps a lot new photographers who buy this great cam..." - Joni Tahkoniemi

"I have found some great threads and the whitepaper wow, what a work of art that is! " - sc003Brt

"It's the kind of thing you have to read several times, before you can absorb all the details. Actually, I doubt if you could ever exhaust its possibilities to learn something new. This isn't a dry recitation of its features and the location of buttons and dials, but a journey into the subtleties of photography, that you usually can experience only if your best friend is a master of the art. If I were to lend this copy to another person who wanted to learn about the "H" series cameras, I'd expect to have to wait a long while to get it back and only then after making threats." - Steve MacDonald

"Thank you again for putting the white paper together - it was a very
useful guide for me - going from someone who knew there were more
options on my camera that I should figure out to someone who uses the
fully manual settings more and more often - just add another check-
mark to the list of people's lives you've made more interesting." -

"...I wanted to drop you a note to *thank you* for taking the time to prepare that white paper. You ought to write on other subjects as well -- the clarity and simplicity you bring to the task is wonderful, and I say that as a former journalist and someone who has spent 20+ years in public relations!

The best part? You clearly explain what the different aspects of digital photography are about, but you go on to tell the reader what *you* do, which always is something I yearn for. So many writers expound on their knowledge of the different aspects of something that it’s rare to find one who actually tells you what to do so you can move onto the next step!" -

"...Mind you, for 12 yrs I have been shooting in Auto mode... but something took hold of me around end of July and I not only wanted great images, I wanted to know the hows and whys and why nots of photography. I had not retained anything I was taught in High School and essentially was starting all over. I read articles, posts, forums and I could NOT grasp apertures, shutter speeds, etc. It was one of the most frustrating things i've ever gone through...

...But then one day, you started posting ... [The White Paper]. I devoured everything you wrote and I practiced. A LOT. And then I got it. I finally understood how to use my camera correctly in manual. I understood how to get shallow depth of field. I understood how to blur motion with shutterspeed. I understood exactly how to create the picture I wanted by using different f/stops and SS combined. How those two interact with each other was the biggest lesson I needed to learn and I finally got it. I was on cloud nine for several weeks and happily shooting everything I could..." - Denise Day
