iconMr. Katz is not just a Web and software developer, but also a photographer, animator and graphic artist.

Starting with promotional pieces more than a decade ago, Alan's animation projects broadened out to include more and more animations for Web sites and even entire Web sites built, from the ground up, using animation.

His most recent animation work is the slide shows he has developed for a number of sites, including this one (click in the "Portfolio Tour" button on the home page to view the video he created for this site).

In addition to the many Adobe Flash animations he's created, he is now moving into HTML5 and jQuery animation as well as video editing.

The following are examples of just a few of his animation and graphic projects over the years.

( Flash and sound are required for most of the demos.)

dbEverywhereSlide Show dbEverywhere™ This is a recent animated slideshow for dbEverywhere™, the web-development tool architected and written by Mr. Katz for dataBI Inc.

This slide show appears on the dbEverywhere Web site.

on pointThis is a promotional animation built for the Web site of On Point Studios, a recording studio, production company and art gallery in the Southern Tier of New York State.

Once the animation runs, pass your mouse over each speaker to check out the popup associated with it.

blue beethoven

Just a fun logo animation for a Los-Angeles band: Blue Beethoven.

Devlin Black Video

This is the most fun you can have building animations. It's a 2 1/2 minute music video using animated photos and graphics. The client, Devlin Black, is a Los Angeles-based metal musician, so pulling out all the stops perfectly expresses his brand.

Photos, art, music editing and animation all by Mr. Katz.

AAK Photo Tour

Alan's original photography portfolio tour, also circa 2004. Both the photography and the animation have come a long way since this one was built. Nonetheless, it's still a good example of how portfolio can be shown using Flash animation.

graphic artsOver the years, Mr. Katz was called upon to design a number of posters and other graphic projects.

It's often part of styling the brand identity of the client, starting with the Web site, but often including a new logo and a wide range of promotional materials, including posters, mugs and other graphic marketing tools.

The images below represent a small but representative sample of some of Alan's graphic design work. Click on the thumbnails below for samples of the art in each category.

event postersEvent Posters Mr. Katz has created numerous Web projects for not-for-profit, arts and community organizations and, from time-to-time, their event and poster art. These posters were created for SpiedieFest, a Binghamton, NY charitable event that includes the largest hot-air balloon rally on the East Coast.

music postersMusic Posters Mr. Katz has enjoyed quite a few clients in the music industry and other arts, among them symphony, opera, fine art galleries and recording studios.

Not only did he create the Web sites and Web applications for these clients, he often did their photography and created their poster and program art. He has had the privilege of designing, photographing and creating art for a number of really talented arts professionals.

logosIdenity Mr. Katz has created a number of logos for clients for whom he had also created Web sites and software. In retrospect, his preference for three-dimensional logos is readily apparent.

mugsPromo Art And last, but not least, Mr. Katz's avocation - creating art for custom coffee mugs - resulted in many personal gifts as well as themed and branded mugs that were sold by his clients as fundraisers or given as premiums or promotional items.
